The Sun Prairie Area School District Board of Education has entered the final phase of its superintendent search, voting unanimously to begin contract negotiations with Dr. Antoine Reed as the district’s next leader.

“The Board of Education is pleased to announce that we have moved into the final phase of our Superintendent search,” the district said in its announcement. “Tonight, the Board voted unanimously in open session to begin contract negotiations with Dr. Antoine Reed to serve as our next Superintendent.”

The decision follows what district officials described as a comprehensive selection process that included community and staff feedback, a review of resumes, and public interviews with finalists.

Reed brings more than 20 years of experience in education and currently serves as assistant superintendent and chief of equity for Rockford Public Schools in Illinois. His background includes leadership roles in Milwaukee, South Bend and Chicago, including serving as a high school principal and chief of schools. He holds a doctorate in educational leadership from DePaul University.

In 2024, Reed was also a finalist for a superintendent position in Midland, Michigan.

The school board’s unanimous vote signals strong support for Reed, though the hiring process is not yet complete. Contract negotiations and a final background check must be completed before the board takes a final vote to officially appoint him.

If approved, Reed is expected to begin serving as superintendent on July 1, 2026.

District officials acknowledged that leadership transitions can be challenging for staff and families. “We understand that a change in leadership is a significant moment for our entire community,” the statement said. “Change is rarely easy, and we approach this new chapter with empathy for the adjustments it brings to our schools.”

At the same time, the board expressed optimism about the future. “We are also filled with a sense of excitement for the future,” the district said, reaffirming its focus on the mission of “Every Child, Every Day.”

Additional details about Reed’s transition and opportunities for the community to meet him are expected to be shared in the coming weeks.
